There has been a wave of gun violence in the United States lately. The incidents, particularly one at a school in Texas, have prompted the public to demand gun control.
Gun rights have been enshrined in the US constitution, and any demand for gun control is met with strong political resistance, especially from the Republican Party.
US President Joe Biden has stressed the need to ban assault weapons.
“We need to ban assault weapons. … if we can’t, we should raise the age to buy them from 18 to 21. Ban high-capacity magazines. Strengthen background checks. safe storage and red flag laws. Repeal liability immunity for gun manufacturers,” he said.
