Virat Kohli started crying, didn’t sleep that night: Ex-teammate recalls brutal prank on ex-India captain

Virat Kohli is a livewire on the pitch when he plays for India or his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kohli appreciates the pressure and likes to face the opposition during a game. However, off the pitch, he remains a calm character who rarely lets the spotlight affect him too much. One of the best hitters in the world right now, Kohli has already established himself as one of the legends of the game and has been brilliant in all formats for the Indian team.

The former India captain rose through the ranks after playing cricket and first-class matches before making his international debut for the Indian team in 2008. He was also the captain of the India U-19 team which lifted the U-19 World Cup in 2008.

While Kohli himself is a prankster in the Indian team and likes to have fun with his teammates, the superstar hitter has already been pranked by his teammates during his junior level cricket days. Kohli’s former Delhi and India U-19 teammate Pradeep Sangwan has recalled how he broke down in tears and had no sleep for a night after being trapped by his coach and teammates ahead of an under-12 game 17 years old.

“We were playing in an U17 game in Punjab. He (Kohli) hadn’t scored big in the last 2-3 innings. We had a trainer named Ajit Chaudhary who called him “Cheeku”. Virat was the main player in our team, and Ajit sir humorously suggested, “let’s tell him he won’t play the next game”. We all participated in the prank,” Sangwan told News24.

“During the team meeting, sir did not announce Virat’s name. He went to his room and started crying! He phoned sir and said that I had scored a 200 and a 250. He had scored big that season, to be honest. He just didn’t get enough runs in the last 2-3 innings. He got so emotional he even phoned Rajkumar sir (Virat’s childhood coach),” he further recalled.

Sangwan then revealed that he was the one who told Kohli it was all a prank and that he would play the next game after the former India captain told him at the time that he hadn’t slept all night because of the coach’s decision. to leave him outside.

“Then he came up to me and said, ‘Tell me Sangwan, what’s wrong? I’ve scored so many points this season’. I said, ‘Yes, yes , that’s very wrong!’ He couldn’t sleep all night. He said, ‘No, I don’t want to sleep. What’s the point of sleeping when I’m not playing?” Then I told him he was playing. It was a prank,” Sangwan said.
