US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that the United States would provide more advanced rocket systems to Ukraine to strike “key targets” from Russian forces invading the country. He confirmed this in a New York Times opinion piece on Tuesday.
“We moved quickly to send Ukraine a significant amount of weapons and ammunition so that it could fight on the battlefield and be in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table,” he said. he writes.
“We will provide the Ukrainians with more advanced rocket systems and ammunition that will allow them to strike key targets on the battlefield in Ukraine more accurately,” he added.
Although he mentioned the supply of more advanced rocket systems, he did not specify which rocket systems will be supplied.
AFP reported, quoting a US official, that Himar multiple rocket systems will be supplied to Ukraine. This, the news agency said,
at the end of the days of speculation on the latest upgrade of military aid to Kyiv in its fight against Russia.
The Himars use precision-guided munitions, the official, who requested anonymity, told reporters. The range is about 50 miles (80 kilometers), Washington having decided not to send ammunition with a much longer range.
