Twitter appears to be coming back for some users after suffering an hour-long outage that affected both its app and website on Thursday.
People attempting to use the social media platform received a message saying “Tweets are not loading at this time. Try again.” According to Downdetector, users began reporting the outage around 8 a.m. EDT. About an hour later, service began to return.
Twitter’s own status page provided no information during the outage, only displaying the message “All systems operational”.
Internet monitoring group Netblocks, which tracks attempts to intentionally block internet access, says Twitter is “experiencing major international outages”, but that this “is not related to internet disruptions or filtering at country level”.
The global outage came at a tumultuous time for Twitter, which sued billionaire Elon Musk in a bid to force him to buy the company for $44 billion.
Twitter was infamous for its outages in its early days, but as it grew, problems became less common. Yet it suffered outages earlier this year, in February.
