The House Select Committee on Jan. 6 said it had canceled a hearing on Wednesday because it needed more time for “technical work,” but former President Donald Trump said he knew the opposite.
“It is said that the reason the Unselects canceled Wednesday’s Kangaroo Court was a complete lack of interest leading to very poor TV ratings,” Trump wrote Tuesday on Truth Social.
“Is it possible? Maybe they should try to find a more talented Hollywood producer than the former president of ABC Fake News. He hasn’t done so well!”
The committee had planned to hold hearings on Wednesday and Thursday, but it dropped Wednesday’s hearing with no new date.
Former acting attorney general Jeffrey Rosen, former acting deputy attorney general Richard Donoghue and former assistant attorney general Steve Engel were scheduled to testify.
Thursday was supposed to focus on Trump’s calls for Vice President Mike Pence to withhold certification of Electoral College votes amid allegations of voter fraud, sending him back to state legislatures in key battleground states.
Trump excoriated the committee and Democrats for the “fake investigation” in a 12-page statement Tuesday, responding to some of the hearing allegations and calling the entire output of a midterm election year a “distraction of President Joe Biden’s failures for the American people.
