The suspect who killed a retired US judge had a hit list containing the names of prominent Democratic and Republican figures

Police have recovered a blacklist of a man suspected of shooting a retired judge. The list contains the names of prominent Democratic and Republican figures, including US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

John Roemer, 68, a former Juneau County Circuit Court judge, was found dead at his home in New Lisbon, Wisconsin on Friday evening. Officers found him tied to a chair with gunshot wounds, CBS News reports.

Law enforcement officers responded after receiving a 911 call that an armed person broke into the residence and fired two shots, according to Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul.

The caller had left the house and contacted law enforcement from a nearby house. Audio of the 911 dispatch indicated that Roemer’s son may have been home when the shooting occurred.

The Juneau County Tactics and Response Team responded and attempted to negotiate with the suspected shooter before entering the home. Inside, they found Roemer dead and a 56-year-old man in the basement who had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Kaul said.

The suspect was later identified as Douglas Uhde. He was later transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The case is being investigated as a homicide and an act of domestic terrorism.

“It appears to be a targeted act,” Kaul told reporters on Friday.

“The individual who is the suspect appears to have had other targets as well. It appears to be related to the justice system.”

According to CBS, citing Wisconsin court records, Roemer was involved in securing Uhde for a 2002 criminal conviction.

In 2005, he sentenced Uhde to six years in state prison and nine years of prolonged supervision for felony armed robbery, with concurrent sentences on three lesser counts. Uhde did not contest the charges.
