Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre is undoubtedly one of the most talented actresses in our industry. Sonali, who has captivated audiences with her back-to-back movies in the industry, is set to make her OTT debut with director Vinay Waikul’s “The Broken News” series.
The series is all about ethical versus unethical journalism, in which Bendre plays the role of a fair-minded journalist Amina Qureshi, who is the head of an Awaaz Bharti television station. Amina is loyal, dedicated to her job and tries to deliver the good news at a time when half the news channels are chasing TRPs.
Sonali Bendre has shared her perspective on journalism when it comes to delivering real and unbiased stories to the public and she has always been affected by broken reporting on her.
Through your character, Amina do you want to encourage journalists to tell the real story?
Everyone always tells the real story, it’s just that it’s their version. I would like everyone to align with the versions they present, but on a simpler note. You always want people to tell the truth because I believe in the truth and I’ve always said that life is all about the simple things. Love, truth – those are the things that matter. If we can lead our lives by these standards, then society as a whole and the world would be a better place.
Have you ever been hit by fake news about yourself?
The time I spent in the industry, of course.
Funded by BBC Studios, the fourth series is an official adaptation of the popular British series “Press” which follows the story of two rival news channels. The series is set to release on Zee5 on June 10.
Bendre, who spent some time off the big screen due to his cancer, was part of some star-studded movies like “Sarfarosh” with Aamir Khan, “Hum Saath Saath Hain” with Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Karishma Kapoor among others.
