The House Select Committee’s first prime-time hearing on January 6 ended after two hours of testimony on Thursday after explosive revelations presented by Representatives Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney.
Former President Donald Trump expressed his rage after the committee released excerpts of interviews with his former Attorney General Bill Barr, his daughter Ivanka Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Mr. Trump called Mr. Barr “weak” and a “coward” after he told the House panel that Mr. Trump’s false claims about a stolen election were “bulls***”.
Mrs Trump, one of her father’s most trusted advisers, also said she did not believe the 2020 election was stolen and respected Barr. Her father countered that she had “checked out” ahead of the 2020 election and was showing deference to Barr.
In her opening statement, GOP legislator Ms. Cheney noted that a number of members of her party had asked Mr. Trump for forgiveness for their role in the attempted cancellation of the election: “Tonight, I say this to my fellow Republicans who defend the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.
