The Ranji Trophy knockouts led to plenty of action on the 22-meter cricket rink. While Bengal broke a record of 129 years after nine of their batters scored over fifty in their quarter-final clash against Jharkhand, another major record has now been broken in the Mumbai-Uttarakhand clash. The Mumbai side led by Prithvi Shaw hammered Uttarakhand by a whopping 725 run margin to claim the biggest victory ever (by runs) in premier class cricket.
Riding on the mammoth a double century and a ton of Suved Parkar and Sarfaraz Khan, respectively, Mumbai posted 647 for 8 declarations in its first inning after striking first. In response, the Uttarakhand batters only managed a paltry 114 thanks to spinner Shams Mulani’s five-iron. In their second down, Mumbai rolled over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 103 to declare at 261 for 3, setting up a mammoth goal of 795 runs as Uttarakhand’s batters continued to fall flat. This time around, Uttarakhand folded for 69, losing the clash by a huge margin.
