Queen Elizabeth thanks everyone marking the start of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations

“Thank you to everyone involved in bringing together communities, families, neighbors and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the UK and across the Commonwealth,” Elizabeth said in a statement.

However, a sign of the monarch’s advanced age and recent “episodic mobility” issues which have led her to cancel some engagements, Elizabeth’s personal involvement in the events may be somewhat limited.

The celebrations begin with the Trooping the Color military parade in central London, and for the first time, Elizabeth will receive the salute of 1,500 soldiers and officers from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Other members of the royal family, including her son and heir Prince Charles, 73, and her eldest son, Prince William, 39, will perform other ceremonial duties on her behalf, although much attention be granted to those who will not be present.

The Queen’s second son, Prince Andrew (62), who recently settled a US lawsuit involving allegations of child sexual abuse, is not expected to attend.
