Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that the evidence that former President Trump was responsible for the Jan. 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill was “very powerful.”
Schiff said: “The evidence is very powerful that Donald Trump started telling this big lie even before the election that he was saying that all ballots counted after Election Day were going to be inherently suspect. This lie continued after the election and eventually led to this mob gathering and attacking the Capitol. I think you only heard a few examples of what these witnesses said in camera. There are many more testimonials where this came from.
Anchor Martha Raddatz said, “Let me ask you, is there a real conversation between people in Trump’s orbit and Proud Boys, Oathkeepers?”
Schiff said, “Well, you know, as I think the committee has already revealed and been made public, of course there are connections between these white nationalist groups and some in Trump’s orbit. Again, I don’t want to go into the details of the evidence. You’ll just have to wait for us to get to that point in our hearings. But I think what’s important, again, is the general context of all of this, knowing before January 6 that there would be violent white nationalist groups coming together with others in this mall. And the President’s decision to incite this mob and do nothing while this attack unfolded. This dereliction of duty, I think, is as powerful as the President’s actions, his inaction that day.
