House Republican No. 3 says Democrats are so obsessed with using the Jan. 6 inquiry to settle scores with former President Donald Trump that they’re ‘missing a huge chance’ to tackle to crime, inflation, the drug scourge and supply chain shortages. trouble Americans.
“I think this is the Democrats, you know, a really desperate attempt to try to change the narrative of all these crises that the American people know their policies have created,” said Rep. Elise Stefanik, RN..Y. , at Just the News. , TV show Not Noise on Friday nights.
Stefanik, the president of the House Republican Conference, said the Democrats’ first prime-time hearing on the Jan. 6 riots on Thursday night was a “dismal failure” and a “partisan political circus” that flagged the America that they would rather obsess over Trump than tackle the country’s most pressing needs, like soaring gas and food prices and the fentanyl crisis which is the leading killer of adults between 18 and 45 years old.
“They’re missing a huge chance,” she said in a wide-ranging interview. “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a prime-time audience on one of these crises? That’s what the American people yearn for….. That’s how out of touch the Democrats are what is really going on in this country.”
Stefanik said Republicans won’t let the Jan. 6 hearings distract them from staying focused on the issues of the present, saying they’ve created a comprehensive program for the fall election modeled on Newt’s famous 1994 contract Gingrich with America.
“You will see our commitment to America that House Republicans have worked hard to write,” she said. “We’ll be unveiling that in the coming weeks. And that’s really important. We’re going to work hard to win that majority, not just to hold Joe Biden accountable, but to bring forward legislation on securing the border, on controlling the inflation, reining in the reckless spending that is happening, holding China accountable, standing up for parents and our role in the classroom on behalf of our children, so there will be a long list of things to do when it comes to policy and we will be committed to delivering those results.”
Stefanik, who also plays a leading role in recruiting top female candidates for GOP races nationally, said Democrats are avoiding having a bipartisan discussion about how best to secure the Capitol and fix the flaws exposed by the Jan. 6 riots when a rag-tag, angry mob swarmed a 600 million dollar Capitol police force.
“The purpose of the Jan. 6 committee with only Nancy Pelosi appointees is not to focus on how to make sure the Capitol is safer,” she said. don’t focus on the facts that led up to Jan 6. What they focus on is punishing their political opponents, smearing Donald Trump, smearing his constituents and smearing the Republican members of Congress who called this committee illegitimate, which is factually correct.
Stefani said she doesn’t believe the Capitol is any safer than it was on Jan. 5, 2021.
“I believe they haven’t made improvements, and we see that with some of the bipartisan inquiries into Jan. 6. Nancy Pelosi has refused to act on many of those recommendations,” she said. . “And I don’t want to blame the Capitol Police. The Capitol Police do a wonderful job every day. And we’re grateful and I have a great working relationship, as does my office with the United States Capitol Police. What concerns me is the politicization by the President’s office when it comes to overseeing the Sergeant-at-Arms and how they interact with the Capitol Police.”
