Not Sachin or Dhoni! Hardik Pandya names his favorite cricketer, says he always put him above other legends

Star versatile player Hardik Pandya is set to make his return to the Indian team after a stellar season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with his new team Gujarat Titans (GT). IPL 2022 was a memorable season for Hardik and the Titans as he led the debutants to their first IPL title in their first-ever campaign in the league. Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals in the final to claim the elusive trophy.

Hardik led from the front as both player and captain and was instrumental in his team’s momentous triumph. He was the Titans’ leading run-getter last season with 487 points in 15 games with an average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 131.26. Hardik also stepped up the ball when needed and collected 8 wickets for his side in IPL 2022.

Ahead of his return to Team India after a long stint on the sidelines, Hardik opened up about his love for cricket growing up and revealed who his favorite cricketer was. While he loved the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis and Virat Kohli among others, Hardik said his favorite was former India hitter Wasim Jaffer.

Known for his batting elegance, Jaffer played 31 Test matches for India and amassed 1944 carries at an average of 34.10, including 5 centuries and 11 fifties. He was a pillar of the Indian order for a few years under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. Hardik revealed that he always puts Jaffer above other legends and also tries to copy his technique.

“Like everyone, I had favorite cricketers. I loved Jacques Kallis, Virat, Sachin sir. There are so many great ones you can’t choose. My favorite cricketer was actually Wasim Jaffer. I loved watching him bat Someone I always put him above other legends Somehow I used to copy his bat but I never got to get his class,” Hardik said speaking on the Podcast SG.

Hardik also revealed that he grew up playing cricket with his brother Krunal Pandya and the duo always strived to help each other improve but never had a rivalry between them. Hardik and Krunal also played cricket at different ages. They joined Mumbai Indians in the IPL where they got well-deserved opportunities and recognition for their splendid performances.

“Krunal and I were completely different cricketers. He was a left-handed hitter who could bowl while I used to spin my legs and hit with my right hand. He used to hitting at 4-5 and I used to hit at No 3. We never had a rivalry because our roles were always different I used to play in under 16 he was playing under 19. But we were there for each other, so make sure we improve in all departments,” Hardik said.
