Aides to Donald Trump told a US Congressional hearing investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riots that the former president’s claims of voter fraud in the 2020 US presidential election were unfounded.
Former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr told the hearing that Trump had “detached himself from reality.” Barr told lawmakers that “he was demoralized.”

“When I went in there and told him how crazy some of these allegations were, there was never any indication of interest in the actual facts,” Barr said.
The US Congressional hearing is investigating whether there was a conspiracy by Trump and his inner circle to overturn the 2020 presidential verdict.

Barr called Trump’s claims “bullshit” and “crazy stuff” while saying the former president had no “interest in real facts.”
Republican Liz Cheney said Trump rejected the advice of his campaign experts on election night and instead chose to listen to a “seemingly inebriated Rudy Giuliani” who claimed Trump had won and insisted that the vote counting to be stopped “to falsely claim that everything was fraudulent.”
“President Trump’s own campaign advisers, his Justice Department and his cybersecurity experts have all told him the same thing,” Cheney told US lawmakers.
Democratic panel member Zoe Lofgren said: ‘As early as April 2020, Mr. Trump asserted that the only way to lose an election would be through fraud, while adding that, ‘the big lie was also a big scam. “
