Maryland: a shooter opens fire on a factory, at least three dead

Maryland on Thursday, June 9, joined the list of places in the United States with recent shooting incidents. A gunman opened fire at a factory in northern Maryland. Authorities said at least three people died.

The suspect was not immediately identified. The shooter opened fire at the Columbia Machine Inc factory in Smithsburg, Maryland, Fox News reported. It was not immediately clear what the motive for the shooting was.

Aerial footage showed police vehicles at the scene of the shooting.

“We are actively monitoring the mass shooting in #Smithsburg at this time, and our office is in contact with officials on the ground,” U.S. Representative David Trone of Maryland said on Twitter.

“If you are local, please stay clear of the area while law enforcement responds,” Trone said.

Columbia Machine provides concrete manufacturing equipment to customers in more than 100 countries, according to its website.

The United States has recently been rocked by a series of shootings. The shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers. Oklahoma and New York were two other places where shootings took place.

Gun rights are enshrined in the United States Constitution, and any attempt to control the wide and easy availability of guns faces strong political opposition, particularly from the Republican Party.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a gun control bill on June 8, but the chances of the bill passing the U.S. Senate are slim, as the Democratic Party would need the support of the United States. Republican lawmakers.
