NBA superstar LeBron James has added another feather to his illustrious hat. The LA Lakers player, also known as “King James”, is now a billionaire, as confirmed by a Forbes report on Thursday (June 2). The 37-year-old veteran forward, four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA Most Valuable Player, ranks second on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and has been associated with the league since 2003.
In the Forbes list of the world’s highest paid athletes, from May 2021 to May 2022, LeBron is only second on the list, with a total income of $121.2 million. He trails Argentina captain and Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi, who is worth a total of $130m. The top five are Cristiano Ronaldo (in third place with $115 million), Neymar ($95 million in fourth place) and Stephen Curry (with $92.8 million in fifth place).
During an interview with GQ in 2014, LeBron had expressed his desire to become a billionaire. “If that happens. That’s my biggest step,” James said at the time. “Obviously. I want to maximize my business. And if I happen to get it, if I happen to be a billion dollar athlete, ho. Hip hip hooray! Oh my God, I going to be excited.”

During his stellar NBA career, James earned over $385 million in salary as a player where he represented the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Lakers. Aside from his Premier League stint, James also made his mark in Hollywood with the movie ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ and successfully sold a minority stake in his production company, SpringHill. Thus, more than $500 million of its value comes from cash and investments.
In addition, superstar basketball player James has a stake in Fenway Sports Group, which owns English Premier League side Liverpool, Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox, as he reached a deal to buy the team. Pittsburgh Penguins ice hockey team.
