Justin Bieber says he suffers from partial facial paralysis

Justin Bieber said on Friday that he suffered from facial paralysis. In a video posted to Instagram, Bieber said he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. The 28-year-old pop icon recently announced he was putting his Justice World Tour on hold due to illness. He announced it a few days before his first scheduled concert in Toronto.

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a complication of shingles that occurs when an outbreak affects the facial nerve near an ear. In addition to facial paralysis, it can lead to hearing loss.

“As you can see, that eye isn’t blinking, I can’t smile on this side of my face, that nostril isn’t moving,” Bieber explained in a video.

“So there’s complete paralysis on that side of my face. So for those who are frustrated with my cancellations of upcoming shows, I’m just physically, obviously, not able to do them. It’s pretty bad, like you can see it .”

Justin Bieber said he does facial exercises. He added that he was taking the time to “rest and relax and come back to 100% so I can do what I was born to do”.

The singer did not say anything about the estimated recovery time from the disease.

This is the third time Bieber’s tour has been postponed, the first two due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
