Liz Cheney tells Republicans defending rioters: ‘When Trump is gone, your dishonor will remain’
The Jan. 6 House Select Committee held its first prime-time hearing on Thursday, with bombshell revelations presented by Reps. Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney.
The panel is scheduled to hold its next hearing at 10 a.m. ET on Monday, June 13.
Former President Donald Trump expressed his rage after the committee released excerpts of interviews with his former Attorney General Bill Barr, his daughter Ivanka Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Mr. Trump called Mr. Barr “weak” and a “coward” after he told the House panel that Mr. Trump’s false claims about a stolen election were “bulls***”.
Mrs. Trump, one of her father’s most trusted advisers, also said she did not believe the 2020 election was stolen and respected Barr. Her father countered that she had “checked out” ahead of the 2020 election and was showing deference to Barr.
Meanwhile, Rupert Murdoch’s property New York Post published a harsh op-ed accusing Mr Trump of being “a prisoner of his own ego”.
In her opening statement, GOP legislator Ms. Cheney noted that a number of members of her party had asked Mr. Trump for forgiveness for their role in the attempted annulment of the election: “Tonight, I say this to my fellow Republicans who defend the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.
Some 20 million Americans tuned in to watch, according to ratings, which equals the viewership of Sunday Night Football. This figure does not include streaming services.

All major networks aired the hearing, which began from 8 p.m. EST to 10 p.m. EST. ABC took home the most winners, with 4.8 million viewers tuning in to its show. James Goldston, a former president of ABC News assisted the committee. NBC came in second place with 3.5 million viewers and CBS received 3.3 million viewers.

Wisconsin judge finds GOP election investigator in contempt
ICYMI: A Wisconsin judge said on Friday that the investigator hired by Republicans to investigate former President Donald Trump’s 2020 loss in the battleground state was dismissive because of the way his office responded to investigation-related open case requests.
The ruling against the office led by Michael Gableman, a former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice who briefly worked for Trump, came after Gableman berated the judge and refused to answer questions on the witness stand. Gableman had not wanted to testify, but Dane County Circuit Judge Frank Remington ordered him to appear.
Remington did not immediately announce a penalty in court Friday, saying it would provide it in a written decision.
