Ivana Trump died from accidental blunt impact to the chest, New York medical examiner says

Ivana Trump, the first wife of former President Donald Trump, has died of “blunt force injuries to the chest,” according to a report from the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office.

His way of dying was said to be accidental.

The findings were released a day after the 73-year-old woman was found dead at the foot of the stairs of her Manhattan home on Thursday.

No other details have been confirmed about his death, but officials previously said there was no sign of forced entry into the home and they were investigating whether Trump had fallen down the stairs.

The former president confirmed his ex-wife’s death on Thursday, writing on Truth Social: “I am very saddened to inform all who loved her, of whom there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York. .”

Mr Trump described his ex-wife as “a wonderful, beautiful and incredible woman who led a wonderful and inspiring life”.

Mrs. Trump’s children added in a personal statement that “our mother was an incredible woman – a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty and a caring mother and friend” who “fleed communism and embraced this country”.

Mrs. Trump was born Ivana Zelníčková in what was then Czechoslovakia, in the industrial city of Zlin.

There she was taught to ski by her father Milos and became a talented member of the country’s national youth ski team, although she was overlooked for the 1972 Winter Olympics.

Her first marriage was in 1971 to Austrian skier Alfred Winklmayr and this union allowed her to leave communist Czechoslovakia for Canada, where she taught English in Toronto.

Mrs. Trump met Donald Trump in New York in 1976, and the two became regulars on the city’s social scene and society pages after they married in 1977.

The couple’s relationship eventually became tabloid fodder amid a contentious divorce and the revelation that Mr Trump was having an affair with Marla Maples, his eventual second wife.

Ivana Trump was the mother of Donald Trump’s three eldest children: Donald Trump, Jr; Ivanka; and Eric.

She said she and the former president had stayed in touch over the years and described speaking with him regularly as he campaigned for president and then occupied the White House.
