I can’t ask Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul to drop out to play me in Team India: Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan slammed a sensational half-century as India took on South Africa in the 1st T20I at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday (June 9). Asked to bat first after losing the coin toss in the series opener, Ishan and opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad gave India a strong start and added 57 runs for the first wicket. The duo might not have had a chance to open the first game if not for KL Rahul’s injury.

India are missing both Rahul and skipper Rohit Sharma in the ongoing five-game T20I series against Proteas, allowing Ishan to open with Gaikwad. While it’s undeniable that competition is intense when it comes to opening slots in the Indian squad, many believe Kishan should be given more chances at the top.

The explosive young southpaw has the ability to take on bowlers from the start and can single-handedly destroy his day’s bowling attacks. On Thursday, Kishan was in top form again as he took the South African bowlers to the cleaners en route to his 76 from 48 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes.

The young southpaw was asked if he thinks he should have regular chances to open for the Indian side in the future. Kishan said he couldn’t ask Rohit and Rahul to drop out to let him play as an opener for the Men in Blue in T20Is. Kishan said he would like to make the most of the opportunities that come his way and leave the rest to the Indian team’s coaches and management.

Whenever I have the opportunity, I have to prove myself and do well for the team, so I focus on my process and what I have to do,” Ishan said after his tremendous blow in the first T20I against South Africa.

“They’ve scored so many points for our country, I can’t ask them to drop out and play me in the first place. I have to keep doing my thing, it’s up to the selectors and coaches to decide whatever happens. ‘they think about it, but my job is to give my best every chance I get,’ he added.

India rolled over Kishan’s 48 76 balls and crucial shots from skipper Rishabh Pant (29 of 16), Shreyas Iyer (36 of 27) and Hardik Pandya (31 of 12) to post a solid tally of 211 points on the board. , beating first.
