“His leadership was impressive in IPL 2022” – Rahul Dravid praises Hardik Pandya ahead of SA T20Is

Hardik Pandya turned heads at the recently concluded IPL 2022. Under him, debutants Gujarat Titans won their first championship while Hardik impressed with 487 runs and eight wickets in total. His leadership was exemplary as he got the best out of his teammates and led with aplomb.

Ahead of the India-South Africa T20I at home, head coach Rahul Dravid praised the versatile Hardik. Dravid hailed the 28-year-old’s leadership skills and is eager to get the best out of him in all departments.

“I just met Hardik a few hours ago. For the guys who played the final, we gave them an extra day off. But I think his leadership was very impressive throughout the IPL. He has performed very well. In that sense, you don’t have to be named a leader to be part of a leadership group. It’s not just about naming Hardik to a position. At this point, it’s really a good thing from our point of view that he has started bowling again. We know what it does for us and what his bowling can add to our depth,” Dravid told reporters in New Delhi. ahead of the India-SA series opener on Thursday, June 9.

“It’s about making sure we can get the most out of him as a cricketer, in terms of bowling, batting and fielding, and in terms of what happens next, it depends on many factors. The selectors will make that decision, in terms of what happens in the future,” Dravid added.

Hardik will make his return in the Indian jersey during the SA T20I. He was last seen representing India in the 2021 T20 World Cup and since then has been out of action in order to fully recover from his back issues. After a brilliant IPL campaign, he will be desperate to continue his form for Team India as well.
