Hardik Pandya captains Aakash Chopra’s IPL 2022 XI, no room for DK, Rashid Khan and Umran Malik

The IPL 2022 came to a close on Sunday evening (May 29) when Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the summit clash, by seven wickets, to claim their first title in their very first season. With that, the third longest IPL season came to an end as cricket fans loved every moment, spanning over two months.

While Hardik’s Gujarat defied the odds winning the season with ease, many experienced performers fell flat while some veterans did extremely well with some uncapped players. Like Jos Buttler, KL Rahul, Liam Livingstone, Md Shami, Avesh Khan, Hardik, Shimron Hetmyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, Aiden Markram, David Miller, David Warner did great, big guns like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, Glenn Maxwell fell flat and couldn’t do much.

Amidst it all, former Indian fly-half turned commentator Aakash Chopra shared his IPL 2022 XI, featuring some big names. His list, however, did not include Dinesh Karthik (330 points at 183.33) of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Umran Malik (22 scalps), pacemaker of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mohsin Khan of Lucknow (14 kills) , Gujarat vice-captain and versatile Rashid Khan (19 wickets and effective cameos with the bat) and some other impressive performers.

On his Youtube channel, Chopra said: “With him (Buttler) I kept KL Rahul. I thought of Quinton de Kock and Shubman Gill but KL Rahul – over 600 runs, two centuries. Again, eat, sleep and score 600 runs in the IPL The form is temporary, KL Rahul is permanent.

Chopra added: “I had done a poll for No. 3 – Deepak Hooda or Rahul Tripathi. I chose Rahul Tripathi, around 80% also voted for Rahul Tripathi. After that my player of the tournament, his name is Hardik Pandya – he is a captain, bowler and batter. He is also the captain of this team.” He claimed: “At No 5 I have Liam Livingstone. He’s a six shot machine and he’s done surprisingly well this year. At No 6 you had to think about who could be kept – DK (Dinesh Karthik) could have been there but I actually picked David Miller because he had an unforgettable season.” He also picked another all-rounder by picking Andre Russell of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – with 335 carries and 17 scalps.

Chopra added: “In my four bowlers there is a spinner, his name is Yuzi Chahal. He is the Purple Cap holder. Rashid Khan and Wanindu Hasaranga could also have been here but my four places abroad are completed.”

“Avesh Khan is by my side. I was thinking of Mohsin Khan, Umran Malik and Prasidh Krishna but I always go with Avesh Khan – less bad days. After that I went with Mohammed Shami, he was amazing. Last but not the least, at No. 11 is Arshdeep Singh. In my opinion, he was once again the standout bowler.
