Harbhajan Singh mentions his ‘most shocking moment’ of IPL 2022, citing Indian star’s struggles

The IPL 2022 edition appropriately ended on May 29 (Sunday) with Gujarat Titans (GT) led by Hardik Pandya winning their maiden title in their very first season. After the end of the 15th season, former Indian out-spinner Harbhajan Singh has revealed his “most shocking moment” of the recently concluded season.

While the IPL 15 season saw many uncapped players and some rookies make their mark, while some veteran cricketers also had a good season. On the other hand, some big guns like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Ravindra Jadeja, Glenn Maxwell, etc. haven’t had a memorable season. Among other shocking moments, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fell flat while five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) finished bottom.

Thus, Bhajji picked his “most shocking moment”, citing the struggles of Indian fly-half and Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Mayank Agarwal. For the uninitiated, Mayank didn’t even lead Punjab to the playoffs as he enjoyed a below-average season with the bat, amassing just 196 runs with a single half-century at a strike rate of 122.50. His indifferent running and ‘stifled’ appearance on the pitch came as a major shock to Bhajji.

“Mayank…I think if we’re talking about Agarwal, I was like, ‘What happened to him? He’s such a good player. After being made captain, I think that put pressure on him. 4. He kept soaking everything. He looked suffocated. We should have given him freedom. It was under the radar and surely could have been a bit better,” Harbhajan told SportsKeeda when asked to pick the “most shocking moment” of IPL 2022.

Harbhajan also later chose his “tournament surprise package”. “Wanindu Hasaranga became a game winner after coming here. He was always a good bowler, we knew he was going to do well. But for me, he was the surprise because the way he knocked down the batters , he showed he had the skills to succeed. It was fun to watch him operate,” the veteran cricketer pointed out.

Wanindu finished with 26 wickets, one shy of Purple Cap winner Yuzvendra Chahal, for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
