Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2022 final: Shoaib Akhtar and Matthew Hayden pick their potential winners

Former Pakistan cricket team fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has picked Gujarat Titans to win the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) final against Rajasthan Royals but added that Sanju Samson & Co will be motivated to winning the title in honor of Royals legend Shane Warne. GT was top of the standings at the end of the group stage while RR was second with two points less than their opponents. But Pandya led him to victory on both occasions they faced RR, including in Qualifier 1. In a chat with Sportskeeda, Akhtar said he wanted the debutants to clinch the IPL title.

“One team (Rajasthan) reached the final after 14 years. In memory of Shane Warne, I hope Rajasthan will go there and crush Gujarat. Heart says, “RR wins for Shane Warne”. They faced a lot of difficulties to reach the final after 14 years. But, as I said earlier, I also always wanted one of the new teams to win because they played so well. I will go with Gujarat,” Shoaib said.

“Rajasthan and Gujarat will be nervous. RR will have a point to prove as they reached the final for the first time since 2008. They will be fired up and their aggression will be in heaven. On the other hand, Gujarat will also want to leave their mark in their first season,” he added.

Former Australia fly-half Matthew Hayden has praised the Gujarat Titans but also pointed to a worrying sign for them during a Star Sports broadcast. “Their 4,5,6 have just been out of this world. But with this bouncing wicket which is very similar to the Australian wicket, so it could be a really worrying sign for Gujarat Titans,” explained the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fly-half.
