Former tennis world number four Jelena Dokic revealed on Monday that she considered taking her own life in April before seeking professional help to deal with depression and anxiety. Dokic, who became a tennis coach and commentator after retiring in 2014, said the past six months had been difficult with “constant feelings of sadness and pain”.
The 39-year-old Australian hasn’t explained why but she split from longtime partner Tin Bikic in January after 19 years together, saying at the time she was trying to process the “pain and trauma “of the breakup. “The last six months have been difficult. There has been constant crying everywhere,” she wrote on Instagram.
“From hiding in the bathroom at work to wipe away my tears so no one would see, to the unstoppable crying at home within my own four walls has been unbearable.” The result: almost jumping off my 26th floor balcony on the 28th april. I will never forget that day, I just wanted the pain and suffering to end. I pulled myself off the edge, I don’t even know how I managed to do that.”

Dokic said professional help helped her deal with negative emotions and urged people facing similar issues to do the same. “It’s not easy to write but I’ve always been open, honest and vulnerable with all of you and I deeply believe in the power of sharing our stories to help us get through things and help each other,” he said. she adds.
“I am writing this because I know I am not the only one struggling. Just know that you are not alone.
“Don’t be ashamed of how you feel. It’s okay to feel that way and you can come back from it.”
