Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tops Trump fundraising numbers amid 2024 speculation

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has received a fundraising boost, succeeding former President Donald Trump’s numbers amid speculation over who will run in 2024.

Mr. DeSantis raised $45 million in the first six months of this year, compared to Mr. Trump who raised $36 million in a 29% drop in the previous half year.

Mr Trump’s figures indicate that for the first time in 18 months since he left the White House, his fundraising levels have fallen below $50 million.

Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich defended the former president’s fundraising numbers, adding he was making other investments in growing the ‘America First’ movement in a critical election year. .

“Not only is he fundraising at an unprecedented rate, he’s investing in America First candidates and continuing to grow this MAGA movement into 2022 and beyond,” Budowich said.

Meanwhile, Mr. DeSantis has won the support of several wealthy donors who have poured millions into his re-election campaign.

Space entrepreneur Robert Bigelow gave Mr. DeSantis $10 million, while Citadel investment firm founder Ken Griffin offered $5 million to the GOP governor.

The numbers come amid speculation about which Republicans will run in 2024.

In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Mr. Trump said he had already decided whether he would run in two years, but had not yet decided when to announce it.

“I would say my big decision will be whether I go before or after [the midterm elections,]Mr. Trump said. “Am I going before or after? It will be my big decision.
