‘End of an era’: Here’s what Mark Zuckerberg told Meta employees about Sheryl Sandberg’s exit

CEO Mark Zuckerberg held a virtual meeting for more than 70,000 Meta Platforms Inc employees after Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg announced she was leaving the company after 14 years.

Reminiscing about the time he met Sandberg, Zuckerberg recalled that he was a 23-year-old man who had no idea what he was doing.

According to Zuckerberg, “A big part of what Sheryl did was she designed our advertising business, she hired a lot of great people, she built our management culture and taught me and ‘to so many other people here, how to run a business. ”

“I think a big part of her legacy is that she came to create opportunity for millions of people around the world and I think she deserves a lot of the credit for what Meta is today. “, Zuckerberg said while glossing over all questions about his relationship with Sandberg.

”I think it’s really unusual for a partnership like this to last this long, Sheryl will say she thought it would last five years but it lasted 14 years. I was a bit more optimistic that it would have lasted a little over five years,” he added.

Explaining why his partnership with Sandberg has lasted so long, Zuckerberg said: “Sheryl is such an amazing person and leader, partner and friend and really loves what she has done, she has been really focused on making it work. of partnership and she is focused on developing the relationship and helping the people around her to grow.”
