California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom announced Thursday that he has joined Truth Social, the social media platform created by former President Donald Trump.
“I know we’re all on this platform looking for the ‘truth’, but the truth is I haven’t been able to find a simple explanation for why we have a murder problem. Red State,” Newsom said in a video added to his first post on Truth Social.
“Eight of the ten deadliest states are red states. So the question is simple: what are the laws and policies of these states that lead to such carnage?” he concluded.
The governor’s first post on Truth Social was less than a day ago. It has already been verified and has around 2,400 subscribers.
He only follows two accounts, Trump and Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes.
Former California Republican Rep. Nunes urged Truth Social users to welcome Newsom.
“Please welcome California Governor @realgovnewsom40 to Truth Social! Welcome Freedom Governor, thank you for joining Truth Social!” he posted, tagging Newsom.
Truth Social even announced that Newsom had joined the platform via a push notification.
On Twitter, newsom said he plans to “expose Republican lies” on Truth Social. “This could get…interesting,” he added.
Newsom has previously clashed with Trump, claiming the former president was “faking” voter fraud after Newsom won California’s recall election last year, ABC 7 reported.
