Chris Evans, who played Marvel superhero Captain America for nearly a decade, hung up his boots in 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The film aged Evans and eventually handed over his shield to Sam played by Anthony. Mackie.
While fans were upset that Evans wasn’t returning to play the on-screen superhero again, they praised the new phase of Marvel where Anthony Mackie will be the new Captain America.
Above all, Evans himself praises Mackie and said he couldn’t think of anyone better than him to carry the legacy forward.
“Nobody better to do it. I mean, he honestly does him justice… I’m so proud of him. I can’t wait to see what they do with it in the future, but if there are any tears, it’s just for the sweet memories I had,” Evans said in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment. .
Mackie first starred as Falcon in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” He was a veteran who ran a self-help group for soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder. He teamed up with Captain America to take down Hydra who had not only survived but also infiltrated SHIELD.
The actor is set to reprise his role in the fourth film in the franchise which could also include Bucky Barnes or Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier. Both actors had appeared in the series ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ last.
After finishing his tenure with Marvel, Evans, meanwhile, moved on and gave voice to the titular character in Pixar’s upcoming “Lightyear,” which is a spinoff of “Toy Story.”
