China blocks Indo-US proposal to designate Pak-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki under UNSC sanctions

China blocked at the last minute a joint proposal by India and the United States to designate Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki under the UN Security Council’s 1267 ISIL & Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee. UN.

Makki is a US Designated Terrorist and brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, also known as Abdulrahman Maki. Makki has held various leadership positions with Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), a US-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). He was also instrumental in fundraising for LeT operations.

In 2020, a Pakistani anti-terrorism court found Makki guilty of one count of financing terrorism and sentenced him to prison. The United States continues to seek information on Makki because the Pakistani justice system has released convicted LeT leaders and operatives in the past.


Also earlier, China, an all-weather friend of Pakistan, suspended and blocked offers from India and its allies to list Pakistan-based terrorists.
