US President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced another billion dollar arms injection for Ukraine. Sources close to the package said it included anti-ship rocket systems, artillery rockets and howitzer cartridges. In a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Biden briefed the embattled leader on the new weapon.
“I informed President Zelenskiy that the United States would provide an additional $1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, including additional artillery and coastal defense weapons, as well as munitions for the artillery and advanced rocket systems,” Biden said in a statement after the 41-minute call with Zelensky.
The President also announced an additional $225 million in humanitarian assistance to help Ukrainians, including providing clean water, essential medical and healthcare supplies, food, shelter and cash to families to buy essential items.
The aid packages, which arrive as US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin meets with allies in Brussels, could be split into two categories: the transfer of surplus defense items from US stockpiles and other funded weapons by the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), a separate program authorized by Congress.
Three sources familiar with the details, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a package worth around $350 billion was to include more rockets for multiple launch systems (MLRS) that had been sent to Ukraine and artillery shells for M777 howitzers and spare parts. rooms.

Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia on Wednesday accused Western countries of “waging a proxy war with Russia”, telling reporters: “I would like to say to Western countries that supply arms to Ukraine: the blood of civilians is on your hands”.
Ukraine is pressuring the United States and other Western countries to quickly deliver weapons in the face of increased pressure from Russian forces in the eastern Donbass region.
In May, the Biden administration announced a plan to equip Ukraine with M142 high-mobility artillery rocket systems after receiving assurances from Kyiv that it would not use them to hit targets in the inside Russian territory. Biden imposed the condition to try to avoid an escalation of war in Ukraine.
