BCCI announces huge cash prize for ‘unsung heroes’ gardeners and conservators after successful IPL 2022

The IPL 2022 edition came to a fitting end on Sunday night (May 29) when Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium , Ahmedabad to win their first title in their first ever IPL season.

The 15th season of the IPL was a special affair, which featured two more teams – Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and eventual winners Gujarat. It saw as many as 74 games played in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad and was a hugely successful season, with few Covid-19 hurdles as all ten teams produced emphatic contests.

While players, support staff, commentators and organizers were hailed, BCCI led by Sourav Ganguly won hearts by awarding ‘unsung heroes’, i.e. gardeners and curators for their overall efforts to ensure the best quality pitches and pitches have been prepared for the players.

Thus, BCCI generously rewarded the ground men and curators after the conclusion of IPL 15. Board Secretary Jay Shah wrote on Twitter: “I am pleased to announce a cash prize of INR 1.25 crore for the men who gave us the best games in #TATAIPL 2022. The unsung heroes – our curators and field men across 6 IPL venues this season.

We have seen high octane matches and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their hard work.
25 lakes each for CCI, Wankhede, DY Patil and MCA, Pune. 12.5 lacs each for Eden and Narendra Modi Stadium”

Speaking of the 2022 IPL final, GT beat RR by seven wickets after being asked to play first. Rajasthan led by Sanju Samson only managed a moderate 130-9 and Gujarat chased the tally with 11 balls to spare.
