Arsenal and Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has recently announced that he will convert to Islam. Therefore, the footballer should also change his surname. The 28-year-old has revealed that he will now use the surname Yakubu for his wife Sara Bella. Nonetheless, Partey has made it clear that he will continue to be known and addressed by his old name in the football fraternity.
“I grew up with Muslims so at the end of the day it’s the same. I’m already married and my Muslim name is Yakubu,” Parety said in a video posted by prominent Ghanaian journalist Nana Aba Anamoah. . He hilariously added, “I have a girl that I love, I know my girly side is going to leave me but that’s ok.”
The midfielder was seen posing with a Muslim cleric in March 2022. So speculation has been rife ever since about his conversion before he came out into the open himself.

As mentioned, Partey will continue to use his first name Thomas on the back of his club and national team shirts. The Ghanaian footballer has been a vital cog in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal club since his £45m move from Atletico Madrid in 2020. Although he failed to live up to expectations in his first season with the Gunners, he made amends and came to life in his second season at the Emirates.
Thus, Partey quickly became a regular in the Gunners’ line-up, relying on his passing efficiency and staggering success rate (which stands at an impressive 86%). He was, however, out of action in the Premier League after suffering a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace on April 4, 2022.
