Arizona House speaker who stood up to Trump testifies at January 6 hearing

Rusty Bowers, a Republican who is the speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives, is expected to testify at Tuesday’s hearing held by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill. United States, according to a source familiar with the matter. .

The hearing is expected to focus on former President Donald Trump’s campaign to pressure state officials to undo Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.

Bowers will join Georgia election officials – Brad Raffensperger and Gabe Sterling – who will be part of a panel before the committee on Jan. 6 detailing Trump’s campaign to force states to void their certified election results.

Bowers, who backed Trump’s 2020 re-election bid, refused to bow to intimidation and efforts to get him to support the legislature’s efforts to decertify Biden’s victory in Arizona.

A spokesperson for the Jan. 6 committee declined to comment on news of Bowers’ testimony.
