Apple launches 3rd generation AirPods, with spatial sound

Apple launched its third-generation AirPods at its “Unleash” event with a redesign similar to the AirPods Pro.

The new Airpods are sweat and water resistant, as well as Spatial Audio. They also come with an adaptive equalizer, which has also been seen previously on Apple AirPods Pro.

Unlike the previous model, Apple AirPods (3rd Generation) feature an improved design with shorter stems to provide a better grip and improved ergonomics.

Next-gen AirPods also come standard with a wireless charging case that supports Apple’s MagSafe.

In addition to the new AirPods, Apple has brought the Apple Music Voice service and new HomePod mini color options, namely blue, orange and yellow.

The company is emphasizing spatial audio and Dolby Atmos music mixes with the new AirPods. They will support the same head tracking capabilities as the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, which also apply when watching videos.

Already considered by many to be the champion of voice call quality, Apple claims to have further improved microphone performance on the latest AirPods. They “feature AAC-ELD, a superior voice codec that delivers Full HD voice quality, delivering clear and natural communication for FaceTime calls.”

The new AirPods also include a skin detection sensor that’s supposed to help accurately discern whether the earbuds are in the ear, in a pocket, or on a table, and pause playback when removed.

When it comes to battery performance, Apple claims the AirPods (3rd generation) can deliver up to six hours of listening time and up to four hours of talk time.

Additionally, the new AirPods deliver about an hour of battery life in just five minutes of charging. Users will also get 30 hours of total listening time with four additional charges in the box.

The headphones will be available in more than 26 other countries from October 26.

In the United States, the new AirPods will be available at $179, while in India, the price has been set at Rs. 18,500 (approximately $246).

Notably, Apple hasn’t given up on the AirPods (2nd Gen) as they will be available at a lower price of Rs. 12,900 (approx $171) in India and $129 in the US.

HomePod mini

Along with the new AirPods, Apple also offered the HomePod mini in blue, orange, and yellow colors in addition to white and gray. The new color options will be available on the Apple Store online and in retailers in November.

Apple Music Service

Apple has also announced a new subscription music service called “Apple Music Voice” which will be available at $4.99 in the US per month, while Indian users have to shell out Rs 49.

It will be available specifically for users accessing Apple Music using Siri. The new plan will initially be available in 17 countries around the world, namely Australia, Austria, Canada, Mainland China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy , Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan, USA and UK.

It will accompany existing individual and family plans and will be available for access on all Apple devices for a single user account.
