Anonymous bidder pays $19 million for a private lunch with US business tycoon Warren Buffet

How far would you go to have lunch with a celebrity? Well, not as much as an anonymous bidder, who paid $19 million, to have lunch with American business tycoon Warren Buffet. It was part of the 21st Annual Lunchtime Auction, which was produced in association with eBay and the San Francisco-based nonprofit Glide Foundation. The organization fights against hunger, poverty and homelessness. On June 12, the auction started with $25,000 and ended at $19,000 on Friday, according to an eBay press release.

At Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse in New York, the anonymous winner will have a private Buffet lunch with seven guests, eBay said.

At the annual auction, over $53 million was raised for Glide. “On behalf of GLIDE and those we serve, I thank Warren Buffett for his unwavering generosity, partnership and dedication, and for his incredible contribution to our mission,” said Karen Hanrahan, President and CEO of the Glide Foundation in the press release.

Jamie Iannone, CEO of eBay, said: “We are extremely proud that Warren Buffett’s latest Power Lunch broke our all-time fundraising record, with all proceeds supporting GLIDE’s efforts to create pathways out of the crisis and transform lives.”
