A ‘smart road’ that charges electric vehicles built in Sweden

With fossil fuels causing a lot of pollution, there is a greater push around the world towards the use of electric vehicles. Major automakers have already made inroads into the sector.

Owning an electric vehicle can be practical and less polluting. But it can give us what’s called “distance anxiety.” On longer rides, the fear of running out of charge in the middle of nowhere can become a nagging thought. But a project in Sweden found a new way and found a solution to the problem.

A “smart road” that charges large electric vehicles has been built. To charge your EV, you just need to drive it on this road. There is no need for a cable to connect your route to a charging point.

This road was built in Gotland, a Swedish island 200 km south of Stockholm. This smart road is 1.6 kilometers long. And there is no fear of someone getting an electric shock as the charging wires are buried under the road and not even visible. The road looks like any other ordinary road in our neighborhood.

The road would be the first such road in the world designed to load large vehicles and trucks.
