“A new chapter has begun”, says Johnny Depp after winning his lawsuit against Amber Heard

Actor Johnny Depp took to Facebook to post a statement after a Virginia court found his ex-wife and actress Amber Heard had indeed defamed him. The verdict followed a highly publicized and closely watched six-week case in which the two had sued each other.

“Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the life of my loved ones, and also the lives of the people who, for many years, supported me and believed in me, changed forever. Everything in the blink of an eye..,” the statement begins.

Amber Heard had written an opinion piece in the Washington Post in 2018 accusing Johhny Depp of domestic violence. Although the opinion piece didn’t mention Johnny by name, the spinoff saw the actor lose movies in major franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean, Fatastic Beasts, and more. The star named Johnny Depp has indeed taken a hit.

In his statement, Johhny Depp said the aftermath had a “seismic impact on me and my career”.

“And six years later, the jury gave my life back to me. I’m truly humbled,” Depp says in the two-page statement.

Here is the full statement

Johhny Depp and Amber Heard had sued each other.

The jurors awarded Depp $15 million in damages from Heard. The panel ordered Depp to pay Heard $2 million in damages.

Depp, 58, sued Heard for $50 million and argued she defamed him when she called herself a “public figure representing domestic violence” in a newspaper opinion piece.

Heard, 36, has filed a countersuit for $100 million, claiming Depp smeared him when his lawyer called his accusations a “hoax”.
