17-year-old mother arrested for throwing day-old baby out of fifth-floor window

A 17-year-old girl from the Bronx, New York, has been charged with murder and manslaughter for throwing her newborn son out of a fifth-story window, police said.

The teenager, whose name has not been released as she is under 18, presented to Lincoln Hospital on October 24, 2021, admitting that she gave birth in her apartment in the East 158th apartment Street.

Hospital staff called 911 and police rushed to her home. She told the officers that she gave birth inside her apartment.

Authorities searched the area and found the baby unconscious and unresponsive inside a flower bed, cops said.

An investigation further revealed that the mother threw the little boy out of the fifth floor window. The newborn landed in the flowerbed in front of the building, police said.

In April, police ruled the death a homicide, not a stillbirth in April.

At the end of the investigation, the young mother was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder and manslaughter. She was taken into custody.
